🧾 Grammar Note: Expressing Feelings in Irish
- In Irish, feelings are expressed with prepositions (not adjectives).
- Most often we use the preposition ar (“on”).
Examples:
- Tá áthas ar Sheán. → John is happy.
- Tá ocras orm. → I am hungry.
- Tá tart ort. → You are thirsty.
- Feelings are not permanent – they come and go.
Other prepositions:
- as → pride, shame, success (Tá bródúil asam.)

- Eagla (fear): Bhí mé ag crith le heagla. – I was shaking with fear.
- Ocras (hunger): Táim stiúgtha leis an ocras. – I am starving.
- Tart (thirst): Táim marbh leis an tart. – I am dying of thirst.
- Imní (worry): Táim cráite le himní. – I am worried sick.
- Tuirse (tiredness): Bhí mé tuirseach traochta/spíonta. – I was exhausted.
- Ionadh/iontas (surprise): Tháinig sé aniar aduaidh orm. – It took me by surprise.
- Díomá (disappointment): Bhí díomá an domhain orm nuair … – I was bitterly disappointed when...
