Highlights

  • Prototype of the new website is live: click here
  • Offline synthesis working for Android and iOS! - should be ready to demonstrate on Geabaire in a few weeks.

Ailbhe

  • Liam gave great talk at the comhdháil.
  • Wants to get Louis Cullen to do 4th Year project with ABAIR on CAPT.
  • Will follow up with students who have ben putting in claims with very little evidence of work done.
  • Agreed that beter organisation and communication regarding staffing is needed.
  • Hoping Amanda will look at the topic of acquisition in Irish by designing corpora.

Neasa

  • Encountered error with Fotheidil on audio recording of a neighbour. John to investigate.
  • New date for 'coiste comhrá' (sp?) mid September.
  • Asked about accomodation for Oireachtas - still nothing booked.

Andy

  • Mon afternoon looking like best time for the next ABAIR meeting.
  • Recommended creating a simplified version of MíleGlórNaNóg for adults for the website.
  • Recommended adding extra dialects for synthesis on home page.
  • Interspeech 2026 in Sydney in September - 5 months to get papers together.

John

  • Has a recent graduate who wants to come work on the API. Asked Neasa & Ailbhe who said to go ahead.
  • Raised the issue of students claiming full time hours but doing very little work.
  • Will work on implementing better onboarding documentation and communication between staff.

Tamás

  • Recommended Ciadhla keep the model she trained as it may be useful later.

Oskar

  • Reminded us of his recommendation for Clockify for monitoring students work.
  • Gave update on new website - added functionality for translations. Live to view at dev.abair.ie

Liam Malone

  • Offline synthesis working for Android and iOS. Could be production ready in 2 weeks. Definitely will have a demo ready for the Oireachtas.
  • Piper voices would be a huge amount of additional work.

Ciadhla

  • Also mentioned that better onboarding would help - felt a bit lost as a new recruit about who to go to regarding various issues.
  • Trained an average voice from scratch to test performance. Just over 100 epochs. Happy with the result, and confident we can get a good result once we get the baseline models.
  • Wants to audit a module or two this coming year.
  • Offered her dad's house in Downpatrick for the Oireachtas.
